It has been action packed, sometimes controversial and always exciting first three events of the Ultimate Sprintcar Championship NSW Speedweek at Valvoline Raceway. It all started on Boxing night which was eventually rained out. The meeting was rescheduled to the following night, December 27. Brad Sweet took a commanding victory in the 36th running of the Australian Sprintcar Grand prix. Second to the line was James Thompson and third was Robbie Farr.
Hard luck stories in the main event were Ben Atkinson who crashed out with five laps to go while running third, Ian Madsen who retired early with a flat tyre and American NASCAR star Kasey Kahne who also retired early.
Fifty-six cars cars returned the following night for the tenth round of the USC NSW. This time it was Robbie Farr who took the win and in turn, scored his 100th Podium finish at Valvoline Raceway. Second to the line was Kasey Kahne and third was Ian Madsen as both turned their bad luck around from the previous night.
This night will be remembered for Kraig Kinser's dramatic exit during time trials. Fortunately the team was able to repair the car and Kraig came from the C-Main to record an eighteenth place finish in the A-Main. I will also be remembered, for all the wrong reasons, for Max Johnston's terrifying crash in his heat. Max slammed the outside wall and destroyed his car. Luckily for Max, he was A OK.
Teams then returned to send 2015 off in style on Wednesday night for the 58th running of the NSW Sprintcar Title. Brad Sweet took the win and in doing so became the first American since Danny Smith in 1986 to win the state title.
Major crashes earlier in the night took out Ian Madsen, Warren Ferguson and Sebastian Johnston. Thankfully all drivers walked away OK.
Second to the line in the main event was Kasey Kahne and third was Kraig Kinser giving the American's a 1-2-3 for the first time since January, 2014.
In exciting news recently announced, there will be an extra show added to the schedule on Saturday, January 2,
The next event will be TONIGHT, January 1 for the running of the 50 lap firecracker.
