Garry Brazier stormed to victory in the fourth round of the Ultimate Sprintcar Championship NSW on Saturday night, October 31 at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway.
Brazier beat home current Australian champion David Murcott by less than a second before the two became entangled post-race after both drivers remonstrated with each other. Third to the finish line was Adrian Maher who put in a very impressive drive to get the final podium placing and qualify for the USC Chase towards the end of the season.
The main event got off to a bad start for Marty Perovich who pulled off before even a lap had been completed. This left 23 cars to face the starter.
Brazier took the lead for the opening lap before the red lights came on for an accident involving Toby Bellbowen and Grant Anderson. From the restart it was all Murcott as he powered away and carved his way through lapped traffic.
During the latter stages of the race, Brazier began to make his mark closing in on Murcott and at the same time, the likes of Maher, Danny Reidy, Matt Dumesny and James Thompson were all locked in an intense battle for the minors.
A yellow light was thrown with six laps remaining after Max Johnston struck troubles and pulled to the infield. This left a last gasp effort for Brazier to snatch the lead and he did just that, leading the last three laps to take another popular win. Murcott was visibly upset with the pass from Brazier and the two made contact going down the back straight after the race. This resulted in both cars becoming locked together and Murcott tipped up almost onto his side in turn three.
Following the top three home was Matt Dumesny who scored his best finish to date, Danny Reidy, James Thompson, Max Dumesny, Jeremy Cross, Matt Smith, Robbie Farr, Craig Brady, Troy Little, Sam Walsh, Chad Ely, Warren Ferguson, Shaun Dobson, Lachlan Abbott, Darryl Campbell, Jimmy Matchett and Jackson Delamont was the last classified finisher.
Non finishers were Max Johnston, Grant Anderson and Toby Bellbowen. Marty Perovich did not start the event.
Earlier in the night, Jamie Veal set quick time in group one before blowing an engine whilst coming out for his heat. Jamie decided the best course of action was pack up and head home. Matt Smith stopped the clock the quickest to claim fast time in group two.
Heat race wins went the way of Danny Reidy, Max Johnston, Matt Dumesny and Adrian Maher. The non-qualifiers heat was won by Jeff Lawler.
The C-Main was taken out by Michael Saller and Toby Bellbowen was the victor in the B-Main.
The next event on the SANSW calendar will be Saturday, November 14 at Valvoline Raceway. On that night, the fifth round of the USC NSW will be run and it will double up as the second running of the Sid Hopping Shootout.
